The prestigious Rhodes Scholarships, which were previously awarded in 20 constituencies representing over 60 countries, have now expanded to a global level. With the introduction of two new Global Scholarships, outstanding young leaders from around the world can apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria and are nominated.
The Rhodes Global Scholarship aims to identify and support motivated individuals who are committed to addressing global challenges, promoting international understanding, and fostering peace. This blog post will provide essential information about the scholarship, its benefits, eligibility requirements, and the application process.
What is Rhodes Global Scholarship?
The Rhodes Global Scholarship is a fully funded postgraduate scholarship program offered at the renowned Oxford University in the United Kingdom.
It is designed to support exceptional young leaders who aspire to make a positive impact on the world through their academic pursuits and engagement with global issues. The scholarship covers all University and College fees, provides a generous living stipend, a settling-in allowance, health insurance, and two economy class flights to and from the UK for the duration of the studies.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Rhodes Global Scholarship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Nationality/Citizenship: Applicants must not be eligible to apply via any existing Rhodes constituency. If they have a strong connection to a Rhodes constituency but do not meet their eligibility criteria, they should consider inter-jurisdictional consideration instead of the Global Scholarship.
- Age: Candidates must fall into one of the following age groups: a) Aged 18-23 on 1st October 2023 (born after 1 October 1999 and before 2 October 2005). b) Aged under 27 on 1st October 2023 (born after 1 October 1996) and have completed their first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2022.
- Academic Achievement: Applicants must have already completed or will complete by July 2024 an undergraduate degree (usually a Bachelor’s degree) with academic excellence that meets or exceeds the specific entry requirements of the chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford.
- English Language Proficiency: Candidates must demonstrate a sufficiently high standard of English to meet the University of Oxford’s English language proficiency requirements.
Prospective applicants should first apply for the Rhodes Scholarship before applying for their chosen postgraduate course at the University of Oxford. Selected candidates for the scholarship will then proceed to apply for their desired course through the University’s graduate application form, with support from the Rhodes House team. The application for the Rhodes Scholarship should be submitted online through the official website before the deadline of 1st August 2023, 23:59 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
The Rhodes Global Scholarship is a golden opportunity for exceptional young leaders from regions outside the existing Rhodes constituencies to pursue postgraduate studies at Oxford University.
The scholarship’s comprehensive coverage ensures that the recipients can focus on their studies and engage in activities that foster international understanding and promote global peace.
