Are you a Ph.D. candidate studying at a university in the United States and interested in researching grassroots development issues in Latin America and the Caribbean? If so, the Inter-American Foundation (IAF) Fellowships might be just what you need to support your dissertation research!
What are the IAF Fellowships?
The IAF Fellowships aim to provide financial support to Ph.D. candidates who have advanced to candidacy and are conducting dissertation research related to grassroots development in Latin America and the Caribbean. These fellowships are open to citizens of the United States, as well as individuals from independent countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (excluding Cuba).
Fields of Study
The IAF Fellowships welcome applicants from various fields, including social sciences, physical sciences, technical fields, and professions, as long as their research focuses on grassroots development issues in the target region.
The selected fellows will receive a research allowance of up to $3,000, along with a monthly stipend of $1,500 for a duration of four to twelve months. Additionally, the fellowship covers the cost of international round-trip transportation to the research site, provides health insurance, and includes attendance at a mandatory mid-year conference.
To be eligible for the IAF Fellowships, applicants must be Ph.D. candidates currently enrolled in a U.S. university. They should hold citizenship in either the United States or an independent country in Latin America or the Caribbean (excluding Cuba). Before commencing their research, candidates must have reached candidacy status for their Ph.D. in disciplines relevant to grassroots development in the region.
Unfortunately, the application deadline for the 2014-2015 IAF Fellowships has passed. However, if you are interested in applying for the next cycle, keep an eye on the official website. The application period for the 2015-2016 fellowships will be announced in the fall.
For detailed information on the application process and other relevant details, visit the official IAF Fellowship Program website at http://www.iie.org/Programs/IAF-Grassroots-Development-Fellowship-Program.

Good luck with your future application!
