About the Scholarship:
Established in 1977, the scholarship owes its origin to the generous contributions of Margaret G. Nickson, ARCM. Margaret was a highly respected singing lecturer at The University of Queensland from 1975 to 1978, and she also taught part-time at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. The scholarship’s continuity was sustained through the years, thanks to a biennial gift from the internationally acclaimed soprano diva, Lisa Gasteen, from 2003 to 2017. Today, it is maintained by an annual gift from the dedicated staff of the School of Music.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the Margaret Nickson Prize for Voice and Piano, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a singer or pianist performing as part of a musical partnership.
- Be enrolled in a course within the School of Music at the University of Queensland.
Selection Criteria:
The scholarship will be awarded to two students, who perform exceptionally well in a competition as a singer and pianist duo. The judges will evaluate the partnership’s outstanding musical performance to determine the deserving recipients of the prize.
Scholarship Value:
The scholarship offers partial funding of $250, which can provide a helpful boost to your musical journey and education.
