Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for this prestigious fellowship, you must meet the following requirements:

  1. Study Medicine in Germany: Applicants should be enrolled in a medical program in Germany.
  2. Pause Studies: Selected candidates must temporarily pause their studies and change their working location for the duration of the MD fellowship.
  3. Time of Research Stay: The research stay must take place before the third part of the medical examination.
  4. Academic Performance: Applicants should have achieved good to very good results in the first section of the medical examination and throughout their studies.
  5. Advance Notice: Interested candidates must inform the Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds at least 3 months prior to the planned change of location.
  6. Time Since High School Exam: Applications must be submitted within 8 years after obtaining the university entrance qualification or high school-leaving exam.
  7. Research Scope: The fellowship does not support clinical studies, botanical and prokaryotic investigations, or applied research.

Application Documents:

To apply for the MD Fellowships, you need to submit the following documents:

  1. Personal Details: Provide your personal information, contact details, and nationality.
  2. Scientific Education: Share details of your academic background, university studies, and any relevant practical training or research experiences.
  3. Honours and Awards: Include any fellowships, prizes, or non-scientific activities you’ve been involved in.
  4. Research Project Information: Describe your research project’s title, future work address, and scientific supervisors at the host and home institutes.
  5. Project Proposal: Present a detailed project proposal, including an introduction, problem formulation, objectives, methods, and work schedule.
  6. References: List up to five published articles relevant to your research from your scientific supervisors.
  7. Financial Circumstances: Provide information about any other funding applications and your present net income.
  8. Information Source: Explain how you first learned about the MD fellowship program.
  9. Additional Documents: Include a letter of motivation, certificates of your exam results, letters of recommendation, and acceptance from your host institute.
