Black Sherif, a Ghanaian rising star, has reached 100 million streams on Boomplay, Africa’s largest music streaming and download platform. After a phenomenal run since last year, the “Kwaku the Traveller” hitmaker becomes the first Ghanaian artist to reach the 100M streams milestone on Boomplay.

With this achievement, Black Sherif joins Boomplay’s Golden Club, which includes Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Diamond Platinumz, Fireboy DML, Joeboy, Omah Lay, and Rayvanny among those who have reached and surpassed the 100 million streams mark.

“It means a lot to me to have reached 100 million streams on Boomplay in such a short period of time and to be the first Ghanaian artist to do so.” As a young boy from Konongo with only a dream and a voice, this teaches me that I can achieve anything and everything if I believe and dare to take action. “I’d like to thank the Boomplay team for having me on from the beginning,” Black Sherif said.

The 20-year-old talented artist, born Mohammed Ismail Shariff, released “Money,” “Cry For Me,” and “Destiny” in 2020, which gained him some online traction. Later, he released “Money (remix),” “Adea Kye,” and “Ankonam,” which received widespread attention on Boomplay in multiple countries.

When Black Sherif’s “First Sermon” and “Second Sermon” were released in 2021, they went viral and catapulted him into the public eye. A remix of his “Second Sermon” featuring Burna Boy extended his reach throughout Africa and beyond. As a result, during Boomplay’s Recap 2021, which highlights stats and insights of music consumption and engagement on the Boomplay platform, Blacko emerged as Ghana’s 2nd Most Streamed Artist of 2021, and his songs “First Sermon” and “Second Sermon” were the 1st and 2nd Most Streamed Songs of 2021 in Ghana, respectively.

Black Sherif’s story was written in bright stars, and he went on to win four awards at the 2022 3Music Awards, which were held in March 2022, including Boomplay Breakthrough Act of the Year. He debuted a spectacular performance of his latest single, “Kwaku the Traveller,” at the same event. The song catapulted him to African stardom, reaching No. 1 on the Boomplay Ghana and Nigeria charts.

On Boomplay, it currently has over 40 million streams.
