Phoenix Woman Reduces Gas prices for nearly a half-dollar less per gallon than other stations in the city.

‘We don’t go by money,’ says a gas station owner, lowering prices to assist customers.
“If you have something, you have to share it with other people,” said Phoenix resident Jaswiendre Singh, whose Sikh religious values influenced his decision.

As gas prices across the country hit record highs, a Phoenix gas station owner is selling gas for nearly a half-dollar less per gallon than other stations in the city.

On Friday, Jaswiendre Singh, owner of a Valero Food Mart, was selling regular gas for $5.19 per gallon, while the city’s average price was around $5.68, according to AAA.

Singh has lived in Phoenix for over two decades. He has three children, one of whom is a college student. He said he works every day from 4 a.m. to midnight, and his wife, Ramandeep Kaur, also works at the store.

Courtesy Jaswiendre Singh Singh has a lot of bills to pay, both at home and at work, ranging from thousands of dollars in property taxes to insurance and mortgage payments for his gas station and home. However, he stated that “helping humanity” and his Sikh religious values influenced his business decision to keep his gas prices low.

“We teach the same thing to our children,” he explained. “If you have something, you must share it with others.”

Singh claims he can offset the loss at the pump with purchases inside the store, but he won’t say whether he’s selling fuel at cost or less. He did say that he buys from a variety of suppliers.

According to Singh, the majority of the cars passing through his station are not Mercedes. Because so many customers assist him by doing business at the store, he felt it was important to repay them during what he referred to as a “crisis.”

Gas prices in the United States have reached historic highs in recent months, owing in part to the ongoing war in Ukraine, as Western countries moved to ban Russian oil imports in response to the country’s invasion. According to AAA, the average price of regular gas in the United States was $5 on Friday, down a penny from Monday due to a slight drop in demand.

With hurricane season continuing into November and no end to the overseas conflict in sight, experts are unsure when prices will begin to fall.
