Brief Description: The NZIDRS is a scholarship program funded by the New Zealand Government and managed by Education New Zealand. It offers international students the opportunity to pursue their PhD studies at prestigious New Zealand universities. The scholarship covers tuition fees, living stipend, and medical insurance for a total duration of three years.

Host Institutions: The participating universities in New Zealand are AUT University, Massey University, and Victoria University of Wellington.

Level/Field of Study: The scholarship supports PhD degree programs in any discipline offered by the aforementioned New Zealand universities.

Number of Scholarships: Approximately 8 awards are available for eligible international students.

Target Group: The NZIDRS is open to international students who are not citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand or Australia.

Scholarship Value/Duration: Successful candidates will receive financial support for a total of three years. The scholarship includes coverage for university tuition fees, associated student levies, an annual tax-free living stipend of NZ$25,000, and medical insurance coverage up to NZ$600 per year.

Eligibility Criteria: To be considered for the NZIDRS, applicants must meet the following five non-negotiable eligibility criteria:

  1. Attain a minimum grade equivalent to a GPA of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale or an A to A+ average in the most recent or highest postgraduate qualification.
  2. Hold a confirmed, non-conditional offer of admission for a direct-start PhD program at a New Zealand university.
  3. Commenced PhD studies in New Zealand after 1st July 2017 (for ongoing students).
  4. Conduct the PhD research in New Zealand and not from a distance.
  5. Must not possess citizenship or permanent resident status in New Zealand or Australia.

Application Instructions: At present, applications are closed for the NZIDRS. Interested candidates should visit the Study In New Zealand webpage to apply for the scholarship when it reopens. The application deadline for the previous round was 15th July 2018.
