Applicants/nominees can now apply in multiple categories. If you are a sports star with a firm dedicated to improving the sports industry, choose sports AND business. If you are a creative looking for unique ways to showcase your art through digital environments, choose the creative AND technology sectors.

Business and technology are two categories with some of the criteria.

You must be a 29-year-old entrepreneur/founder on May 31, 2023.
Should have a REGISTERED BUSINESS ON THE Continent
The company/companies should be at least two years old; the more inventive the company, the better.
Nominees must have put their own money at risk and had a positive social effect.
It must be profitable.
People in Africa must be employed.
All applications must be written in English.

How To Get On Forbes 30 Under 30

There are some requirements to be nominated for the distinguished list.

Those chosen must be 29 years old as of December 31, that year, and play a significant role in their respective industries.

The 600-person list will then be voted on by a category judge panel. According to Forbes, “reporters, editors, and expert judges evaluate a variety of characteristics such as funding, income, social impact, innovation, and potential.”

“Nominee shortlists are shared with each category’s four-judge panel, which selects the final 30 nominees in their respective category.” In addition, 300 awardees from Europe and Asia were chosen in 10 categories for the list.

Twelve people under the age of 30 made Forbes’ 2023 list of the World’s Billionaires, including four Stanford dropouts, two food delivery magnates and a cryptocurrency whiz. Together, this rarefied group is worth $25.8 billion and represents less than half a percent of the 2,668 billionaires Forbes found this year.

Four billionaires under 30—all self-made—are newcomers this year. Richest among them is Gary Wang, age 28, the cofounder and chief technology officer of Bahamas-based cryptocurrency exchange FTX. (Fellow cofounder and FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, who just turned 30 in March, was the richest 20-something last year, worth an estimated $8.7 billion.) Joining Wang is 27-year-old Ryan Breslow, worth an estimated $2 billion, who dropped out of Stanford to build the lightning-fast payment software company Bolt before stepping down as CEO earlier this year. Rounding out the new entrants are fellow Stanford dropouts Pedro Franceschi and Henrique Dubugras, who vaulted into the billionaire ranks when their corporate credit card startup Brex hit a $12.3 billion valuation in January. The Brazilian-born founders, ages 25 and 26, respectively, are now worth an estimated $1.5 billion apiece.

Altogether there are seven self-made billionaires under 30 on this year’s list, outnumbering the five heirs to established fortunes. That’s thanks in part to Stanley Tang and Andy Fang, both 29, who cofounded food delivery app DoorDash in 2013 with Tony Xu (who’s now 37). Their stakes were each valued at over $2 billion when the company went public in 2020, and while the stock has dropped off since then, the two are still worth an estimated $1.2 and $1.1 billion, respectively. Austin Russell, who became the world’s youngest self-made billionaire when his automotive sensor firm Luminar Technologies went public in December 2020, has also seen his fortune slide. Now 27, Russell’s net worth is down by one-third, to an estimated $1.6 billion.

Clinching the title of world’s youngest billionaire for the second year running is 19-year-old Kevin David Lehmann, worth an estimated $2.4 billion. The list’s only teenager inherited a 50% stake in German drugstore chain dm-drogerie markt from his father, an early investor in the business, but neither are involved in its daily operations. Four others under 30 also have their parents to thank for their ten-figure fortunes: Gustav Magnar Witzoe, age 28, heir to one of the largest farmed salmon operations on earth; Wang Zelong, age 25, who inherited stakes in two Chinese chemical companies; and Norwegian sisters Alexandra and Katharina Andresen, ages 25 and 26, respectively.

It’s been a mixed year overall for this elite cohort. While there are two more billionaires under 30 this year than in 2021, this group is collectively worth $3.7 billion less than last year’s group, due in large part to choppy equity markets and Sam Bankman-Fried’s graduation from the under-30 ranks. Forbes has ages for about 97% of the 2023 list members; this post is based on the ages that we’ve been able to confirm.
